Stop the Bleed®

STOP THE BLEED® is an initiative of the American College of Surgeons(ACS) and the Hartford Consensus; it represents the current best practice recommendations to control severe bleeding. It provides bystanders skills and basic tools to assess and stop uncontrolled bleeding in an emergency and can save lives.

STOP THE BLEED® is a grassroots effort that encourages bystanders to become trained equipped and empowered to first respond during emergencies, before professional help can arrive, and address the injuries no matter the situation or cause of severe bleeding.

This course uses Power Point lecture, video, and instructor demonstration of equipment application. It is interactive which allows the learner hands on experience with equipment and skill application, with instructor oversight. This training will focus on in depth explanations, assessment and hands on application of various bleeding control methods.

Bleeding is the number one cause of preventable death after injury. The Hartford Consensus along with ACS emphasizes no one should die from uncontrolled bleeding.  Death from bleeding can occur in minutes, and many mechanisms of Injury can cause severe bleeding. Skills and techniques in the course apply to severe external bleeding regardless of the cause. ACS and TBRHSC are committed to 0 preventable deaths.
