STOP THE BLEED® is a national initiative launched by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) in partnership with the Hartford Consensus. It represents the latest best-practice recommendations for controlling severe bleeding — empowering bystanders with the knowledge and tools needed to save lives in an emergency.
This program teaches essential bleeding control techniques that anyone can use before professional help arrives. Whether the bleeding is caused by an accident, trauma, or other emergency, quick intervention can mean the difference between life and death.
What to Expect
This 90 minute course includes:
- A structured presentation using PowerPoint and educational videos
- Instructor-led demonstrations on bleeding control equipment
- Hands-on practice with real equipment and techniques under guided supervision
Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how to recognize life-threatening bleeding and apply various control methods effectively, including wound packing, pressure application, and tourniquet use.
Why It Matters
Uncontrolled bleeding is the leading cause of preventable death after injury. A person can bleed to death in just minutes — often before first responders can arrive. With the right training, anyone can become a lifesaver.
The ACS, in partnership with TBRHSC, is committed to the goal of zero preventable deaths from bleeding.
